Thailand Shopping

A friend is going to Thailand on a school project and wants to know what she can bring me back..What is there that is easy to bring back and not terribly expensive...silks, jewelry,???

don't know what not terribly expensive is to you so it is hard to say...but gold and semi precious stones are very reasonable....so is silver of all types...silk is reasonable and beautiful...lots of gifts for the house...placemets, tableclothes...

If you are able to get clothes made up I would opt for Thai silk . It is beautiful and unique. Jim Thompsons is generally considered the best but also more expensive than other places which are plentiful in Thailand.

Thailand is known for jewelry so that is an option. Both silver and gold, precious and semi precious stones. On the forum you will find recos for SJ Intl, 022342446/7. They even pick u up from your hotel. They are upper end of market but quite reliable I am told. Home stuff in Bkk is fabulos as is silk. If your friend has time the Jim Thompson factory outlet at Sukhumvit Soi 93 is worth a visit - amazing range of end of season and discontinued stuff at great prices

WOW!! You are all terrific...since jewelry is personal and she is very young and we have different taste. I don't think I can go wrong with Thai Silk...Sounds like I'd be in shoppers heaven with the gold and gems. Thank You!!!

if you wanted to have something made up for her, which is very cheap in thailand...take a sample and they will copy it...you could take a favorite shirt made of say cotton and have it copied in silk...
our favoirite silk place is js thai silk in the river city shopping center on the river next to the sheraton orchid...they are on the ground floor near the info desk and the up escalator...there are many shops in this mall but we like this one the best...it is silk and custom made garments all in one shop...

If your job requires a suit, I suggest custom made suits. I found Raja behind the JW MARRIOTT to be superb.
