Thailand Salaries

Hi

A friend fo mine just came back from a work meeting where he met a Thai medical physicist. This man lives and works in Bangkok at a state run hospital. He was telling my collegue that he earns US$25 per month rent is US$10 per month. My curiostity is aroused. Do these figures sound correct?

Thanks J

No, that can't be right. Maybe $250 or $2500.

No ways !!!!!

He has left off a zero !

$250 would be about B 10,000 which sounds about right and paying $100 a month rent which is about B 3,900 also sounds about right!

Basic pay starts from around $100 a month, an office worker gets $ 150-200 a month, a computer technician would be about $ 250-300 a month, a top Secretary / PA in a very large company about $ 400-450 a month. A teacher probably $ 250 a month. Salaries outside of Bangkok lower than in Bangkok. A $ 500 a month salary is 'big', but naturally in big corportations quite a lot of people on $ 800-1,000, some on $ 1,500.

Just to add that there are actually minimum salaries, these are based on city/province scales, in Bangkok I think it was about B 180 a day, so about $ 110 is the absolute lowest allowed. That is where like many countries you see serevice/hotel workers getting the 'minimum' plus access to lots of tips you all generously give.
