Thailand March/April
 

I have had to cancel my trip in February, it now looks like we will be going late March/early April, our itinary is BKK Amari Atrinum 3 nights, Phuket Patong Beach7 nights, Anatara golden Traingle 4 nights, Hau Hin Marriott Spa and resort 7 nights.

The cancellation gives us the oportunity to change the itinary or hotels if we require, What will the weather be like on rearranged dates.

Any advice on Hotels or itinary would be appreciated we have not been to Thailand before.

it looks great, except i would re-think the bkk hotel...try the marriott resort and spa...its better located and nicer...
you will love the hua hin hotel...rooms are not lux but the pool is fantastic and location is good...make sure you eat at La Mer Restaurant up on the hill down the beach...
anantara is also fantastic...take a cooking class...very remote hotel...visit the opium museum across the street...italian restaurant is good....you are a captive there as it is so remote...great pool...

what kind of deal did you get for the Atrium.. there may be places of equal price a litle bit closser too the action.. the web site does say it is withen walking distance of the NEw subway.




just a litle tid bit for those that like dumping on the AMARI it is owned by Italian Thai Development Corp, which also ownes the world famous ORIENTAL hotel...

Thanks for the response we are paying £34 per night per room. We have seen many hotels we prefer but at much dearer prices and as we intend spending most of the time away from the hotel in BKK we did not consider it worth splashing out for a dearer hotel here.

arrgg you made me work. I had too figuer out what that squigly symble before the 35 was then convert it too that other funny looking symble

$67 in bkk is actully in the upper middle scale. places like the ambasador go for about 35 US dollers and are good especialy if you don't expect too stay too much in the hotel. you can check www.asiahotels.co or www.asiatravel.com too see other option then ya have all your serviced apartment options..

choose what ya like but I must say that the atrium is not in the best location and WARNING WARNING. try not taking any taxi or automobiles from lets say 8AM too 12 midnight.. the trafic in that area NEW petchaburi/ASOKE/ and sukunivit are basicaly the worst in the city.. last week on a visa run from cambodia and back we were stuck in that area for 1 hour 25 minuts .. NO joke one of the pasengers went stir crazy and we all jumped out of the van..

If the traffic is that bad I assume it would not be a good idea to book Ratt for a day to see the sights ?

I would not spend 7 days in Hua Hin. It's nice and relaxing, but very slow. It seems you're spending 7 days in Phuket before that, so 7 more very slow beacxh days seems excessive. If you are going primarily for beach time, ignore this.

Patong Beach and Hua Hin are very very different, Patong is the busiest area of Phuket, very crowded with traffic etc, nightlife and shopping, Hua Hin is more relaxed and quiet.

after readong many posts about Ratt, I think she pilots a flying toyota.

We had deliberately booked a week at each of Patong and Hau Hin because they are different one vibrant and one quite.

Good idea John, both have their merits. Although most would fly from Phuket and then take a taxi or limo down to Hua Hin getting a car+ driver is also an option. The journey by road takes between 7.5 and 8 hours depending how fast you want to go. Car+driver would charge about B 6-8,000 for the trip and if you have been flying place to place it's a chance to see a bit more of the country. If you want to stretch the day out and stop for lunch the Cabana Resort near Chumphon ( about 3.5 hrs south of Hua Hin ) makes a nice break.

How easy is it to get a car and driver in resorts like Phuket, Hau Hin and Chang Saen and what would it cost for a day ?

14 days at a beach is way too long in my opinion. I'd make it no more than 7 days and stick to one place. I'd take the extra days and add one or two days in Bangkok and the rest in northern Thailand -- maybe Chiang Mai or other areas in northern Thailand. First,it will be cooler there and there is a lot to see and do.

The beaches in Hua Hin cannot compare with those in Phuket. The town is quite slow. I am afraid that you may get bored. Bring a few books and get lots of massages.
