Thailand/Laos in September - too rainy?
 

Hi,

I am planning a trip to Thailand (and possibly Laos) during the month of September. Although I'll likely post a follow up question about the details, before spending much more time planning, I'd like to understand what to expect in terms of rain in September (knowing we'd likely hit some).

Just to provide context, our very tentative itenarary might be something like:
- BKK
- Phuket/Krabi
- Chaing Mai/Chaing Rai/Luang Prabang
- BKK (or maybe HKG)

- I assume it's pretty likely we'll experience rain?
- Does the rain last all day or only a short time?
- Is it worse in any paticular part of the country?
- Realistically, is it worth going in September or should we try a different month? (we love to walk when in cities and want our fair share of relaxing beach time).
- If not, any suggestions for alternatives near this region for September travel which might provide better weather?

Thanks for the response Kathy. I have looked at weatherbase and understand we are going during the raniest month (on average).

I think my question now is more around what to expect during the raniest month (short down pours, steady rain all day, etc, is it even possible to know?) and if it's worth reconsidering our timeframe. I haven't seen many people posting itenararies for the month of September which makes me think it's not a good time to go?

It will be wet. Sometimes it's a heavy rain for an hour or so, other times it will be stormy most of the day. There is sometimes flooding at that time of the year. You might get lucky, but as you can see, you should expect rain.

If Septemebr is when you can travel, you might consider Bali - it's very dry in September.
