Thailand in November

My husband and I will be attending a wedding in Bangkok over Thanksgiving, and we would like to vacation near the beach for about a week afterwards. I am overwhelmed with all the choices of destination!

We are looking for accomodations with easy access to a beautiful beach, shopping, and nightlife. Five-star a ccomodations are not necessary; just something clean and comfortable. We are looking to spend no more than 150US per night.

So two questions......what general area would be recommended for late November, and are there any specific recommendations for a resort or hotel that would fit our requirements?

Thanks!

Any of the beach areas on the Phuket side of Thailand should have good weather at the end of November. So you can choose Phuket (many kinds of beach areas very busy to very isolated), Krabi, PhiPhi, Koh Lanta, etc. All would best be accessed via a flight. Another option is the Hua Hin area, which is about a 2.5 hour drive south of Bangkok. There are many lovely places to stay in all of those areas.

Go to one of the local booking sites, such as www.sawadee.com and browse properties, then ask questions about specific ones that catch your eye.

Check out the Meridien Beach Resort in Phuket. It's close to your budget. the weather will be perfect. It's just south of patong. A quick taxi and you will be in the midst of the night life. the beach is very nice and the pool is superb.

you would love the hyatt in hua hin....it is right on the beach and one very nice thing is that the food on site is reasonable unlike many beach hotels in thailand...

if you shop around a bit you should find it for $150-175 i think...

most prices are not firm or available until the end of summer however....watch the hyatt site where prices change frequently and look at the thai discount sites:

www.huahin.20m.com
and
www.asiarooms.com

where will you stay in bkk?? we have tons of suggestions for you and use these sites above for the best prices...

We are staying at the Rama Gardens Hotel in Bangkok. Everything is being arranged by the family of the bride and groom, so we do not have a choice for that part of the trip.

I have been doing some more research, and I am starting to think that it might be fun to stay in a smaller, more authentic Thai-style boutique hotel for the second half of the trip, since we're staying at a large resort for the first half. One that I am looking at in Phuket, on Kata Beach is Kata Minta (www.kataminta.com). Any opinions? It looks like it is close to the beach, and within walking distance of shopping and dining. It has gotten good reviews on several other sites.
