Thailand in November

Thailand in November
Hi,
I am just so confused. I have been browsing Fodors and every weather site imaginable to try and see what the weather will be like when I go to Thailand in the latter part of November for 2 weeks. ALL I have come up with is a bunch of contradictions, most of which end with "its all luck - I had 2 weeks of scorching sunshine when it was supposed to be Monsoon season in Koh Samui".
Could anyone give me some clear, simple advice of where to go for some island sun in November? So far I am convinced its just luck of the draw.

I agree with James, We were in Ko Lanta late last November and the weather was very good. We only had the very ocassional downpour in the evening, and some of the most spectacular lighting storms I have ever seen.
We are going to Thaland agin this year in the last two weeks of November. I have been looking at the waether charts for Koh Samet and Hua Hin. It looks like Hua Hin will be ok the end of November, but I cannot get any accurate detail for Koh Samet. Can anyone help clarify.

Many thanks for your help - guess it's the south west then! Failing that I could always just do a crash course in Thai and check the weather report when I get to Bangkok.
Any favourite destinations on the South West? I'm thinking non-commercialised (as far as possible), small, remote etc...

With all due respect to James, I lived in SE Asia for 10 years and November can still be very rainy in southwest Thailand! It is the last month of the rainy season as the monsoons are finishing on the east coast of India and moving down along the west coats of Thailand and Malaysia towards Singapore. I would go as late in November as you can. Also, take a look at weatherbase.com (The east coast like Koh Samui is not much better in November either; the smaller resort islands like Rawa in Malaysia often close from November to March.)
If you decide to go to the southwest, Phuket and Krabi are the most popular destinations. These are fairly well developed, but you can find more remote bits, esp on Krabi. Run a search here for suggestions. Chartering a boat is the best way to get away from all tourists and to see the stunning topography and uninhabited islands. I ca give you information on a charter service if you are interested, or run a search for Thai Marine here, as I have posted on this service before.

Callie, try Koh Lanta, it's further south from Krabi. If you really want quiet and more remote it is probably ideal. If you want quiet but not 'too' remote the Tubkaak Resort near Krabi is great, and very good value.
Check Weather in the Bangkok post. My advice is don't let the weather 'rule' your trip, I say it so often that some of the most beautiful scenes in the tropics are duing the rain, I am lucky, I simply love to sit on a wooden verandah during the rain, the aroma from the trees, the sound, the freshness in the air, very 'atmospheric' and relaxing, if it rains do not look upon it as a problem, grab that novel and find yourself under cover watching the rain and take that opportunity to 'unwind' which is after all what so many seek as part of their vacation/travels. If you do get rain it is likely to be short sharp bursts. Don't worry.

JamesA, thanks for all the advice. You're right- I'm only there for a measly 2 weeks anyway (this full time job thing is overrated) so I just want to be able to relax no matter what the weather.
