Thailand; Honeymoon; Suggestions

Hello, we are thinking about Thailand for our Honeyoon (May 4 - 20). I have just started to begin the research, so I would appreciate if you could offer some input, links, etc.

We are looking for a combination of adventure (sea kayak, hiking) and leisure (beach, swimming).

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Mark

you of course will spend some time in bangkok, where i would reccomend the penninsula for your something special place...currently a $160/170 rate...look at the penninsula web site and select bangkok...
we also prefer to stay at the bangkok marriott resort and spa...its on the river, has good food, a mall with korean, thai and american food plus some shops and absolutely the best pool area in bangkok...look at the marriott web site...marriott has a number of thai properties...i have stayed in them all except phuket which is new and beautiful---great deals at the moment...all of the marriotts are fine with thai accents and architecture, except the jw in bkk which is an inner city luxuary hotel....it is a good location too but not for honeymoons...great rate however...nice rooms...

i would suggest both of those hotels to my son or daughter for the start and end of a honeymoon..

the beach part: hua hin--probably too boring, phuket great...ko samui --fabulous..krabi also very nice...

you could go north to chiang mai and chiang rai if you like cooler weather and more woodsy, trecking adventure...

enjoy and congratulations....

Sorry, I did not add my hearty congratulations to you both also!

Here are a few Phuket links for adventure tours and activitiesBR>
http://www.andamanseakayak.com/

http://www.phuket-packages.com/excursions.htm

http://www.phuket-tourism.com/where_to_go/excursions.htm

http://www.phuket.com/island/attract.htm

Just a little idea if it appeals to youBR>You can also go to any Thai temple where you can receive a 'blessing'. Just ask the girls at reception and they will tell you what to do, you just take some small gifts, food, candles etc ( the girls will help you - you need a Thai person to go with you, you just attend before 11 am when everyone else goes for birthday blessings and prayers ), you receive prayers and it is simply a very nice experience, you will have a piece of thread tied between you during the prayers, it is then cut and placed on both your wrists, lovely things to keep and cherish 'forever and a day'!

I always go 'every birthday'!

just thoughts of another possible idea...the marriott resort and spa owns a boat...the monora song...it takes one and two day trips up the river...we went about 3 years ago and it was fabulous...its very expensive...the one afternoon, one nite, one day and limo return to bkk was about $700. for two...the boat has 4 staterooms, beaurifully appointed, private baths..ours was under our stateroom with a small spirial staircase leading to it...the meals are great... the service is wonderful...the views are unbelievable...you sit on the bow as you go up the river, riding high in an arm chair survey all of waterfront bangkok...in the morning you make merit at a wat and then go on to the king's palace and another wat...longtail boat takes you further to the ancient capital...\

contact the marriott if you are interested...see their web site from the marriott site...

Congratulations. What is your budget? In general Pattaya, krabi, Phuket, Hua hin, Chiangmai, Chiangrai [the golden triangle...Laos, Myanmar & Thailand seperated by nature viz., Meekong river],Phitsanulok, Sukhothai [now declared a world cultural heritage]. Since you are travelling to Thailand, I would suggest Malaysia and Sarawak, Borneo, Brunei. All in the same vicinity. In Malysia, you have the Petronas Towers, now the tallest in the world. In Bangkok, try Hotel Ambassador's Apartments. They are value for money.

Regarding a previous suggestion, the Marriot in Phuket has a very strong undertow. I'm a confident swimmer but felt unsafe. We moved on to the Rayavadee - great location but expensive and a little shabby around the edges. The Pimalai on Ko Lanta is fantastic, but dont tell anybody. We're going back.
