thanks to re:the dress code, I don't think I qualify as a wealthy older person but I am in my 70"s and feel I look good in golf classic. However I do agree with Bob, Gloria, and Kathie that I want to blend in inBkk. I will wear shorts and a golf shirt up north, but I will probably wear "golf" if it /is extremely hot. Thank you all for your wonderful responses. There seema to be some different opinions regarding money too. Some say to carry lots of 1,5,10, 20, and even some 50 dollor bills all which makes me nervous even though I have a security under shirt carrier, and others say use your credit cards, others say to have some travelers checks. and we will need some cash for the various border crossings eg. cambodia. what does this knowledgable group say?

glorialf, We are staying ! night at the Siem Heritage and 5 at the Swiss Lodge in bkkIn Chaing M The Empress and the Fern Resort inChaing R Hotel Wiang Inn and Rama Garden, in Siem Reap Hotel Khemara Angkor for a total of 19 nights.

carrying money...do not carry lots of money around with you....leave it in your room safe or in the hotel safe deposit boxes....getting all that case is for cambodia....carry only $50 or so each day...

in thailand you will need to change money to baht as you need it....i usually carry about $100-200 in baht depending on what we are doing that day...i pay for all meals in cash while travelling...hate huge credit card bills for small things when i get home....i use atm's exclusively now except for the american cash i bring with me for countries that require it...laos/cambodia

When I was in Thailand last year, I ordered bottled water in one restaurant. I felt leary about the water as the label looked very worn and the cap was one of those metal-type that you remove with a bottle opener. It seemed that maybe the bottle had been reused and I didn't know what kind of water had been used to refill it, so I ordered a soft drink instead.

"blending in": in Bangkok is the same as trying to blend in, in New york city or London, this is a very multi cultural, cosmopolitan, liberal city.

hmm I would of thought chaing mai is the place to wear pants it's cooler up there.

lol, oh well what do the locals know.

A tip for those that want to wear shorts but feel they may stumble upon a wat and need pants is too either buy one of those pants that have zip off legs. or pack a light weight jump suit pants in a bag or large purse. make sure their big enough that you can slip then over your shorts.
