Thailand-Bangkok-Ko Samui-Chang mai in the begining of May

Hi, our group from 4 adults and 2 teenagers are planning to spend 2 days in Bangkok, then 6 days in Ko Samui, which part of the island do you recomend. We prefer sandy beaches and places for snorkeling. Which hotel near the sea do you recomend.@
Any suggestions about the rail way trip from Bkk-to Changmai? Which clas and time of travel are more suitable ?
Thanks in advance

The rail trip between Bangkok and Chiang Mai is about 12 hours, the flight is an hour. There are very inexpensive flights on Air Asia between Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

Only one beach in Samui with fine white sands but it is also the most crowded. No worthwhile snorkeling either but the nearby islands offer very good diving and snorkeling. Nearby = 45 to 60 minutes boat ride.

Hello! myself and a few friends will be in Thailand in early May for two weeks. I have heard lots of different things about the weather. I know it will rain and that is to be expected, but are there lots of cloudy days as well? Thanks so much for your help!

Ditto on what Kathie said about getting to Chiang Mai. My husband and I planned to take the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, but the hotel concierge suggested flying. We bought a ticket with just a few days advance purchase - it was affordable and fast.

Fly to Chiang Mai, trains in T'land suck big. Hot, and hotter during May in north T'land. Talking 100+ F but usually dry, so it's like the desert.
