Thailand and vaccinations

I am leaving in a week for Thailand (18 days). I already have the Hep A and B and Tetanus and Typhoid . My doctor suggested even Polio so I got a boost. I am taking insect repellent with me and my doctor prescribed Cipro (antibiotic) and Malaria pills. Malarone. I am in my early 60 and I feel that I may not need it.
My group will be in Bankok and in Khao Yai national park for hiking jungle trek for a day and half, then Chiang Mai ,Wat Doi Suthep and Elephant Sanctuary and another one day jungle trek in Chiang Mai. Then to beaches in Koh Lanta and then to Krabi and then Ayutthaya

do I need the Malaria pills for these places ?

Check the CDC site, they have a good map that show where the malaria areas are. Up north in Natioal park may be one of those areas.

Did you go to a travel medicine professional or simply your own primary care provider? Often docs without expertise in the area will be extra cautious (and reasonably so). Remember that malaria isn't the only mosquito-borne disease to be aware of, dengue is also endemic.

Are you staying in accommodation without air conditioning? If so, that raises your risk a bit.

Use repellant religiously. Re-apply as needed.

Also, cipro is no longer considered effective against bacterial strains of TD, Azythromyacin is the drug of choice for Thailand. If your doctor looks at the section in the cdc website, he will see information for health care professionals that specifies this. You can also buy it over the counter in Thailand. Choose a pharmacy in an air-conditioned space. There are Boots in all of the major malls.
