Thailand and Bali Trip Questions...

Hello!

I am in the initial stages of planning a 2 week trip to Thailand (one week, 2-3 nights Bangkok, the rest on Phuket Island) and Bali (one week).

I have a few questions and need your expert advice...

Is it feasible to combine these two in one trip?

Can anyone recommend a reliable travel agency or tour operator who can help me put together a package?

Has anyone combined these two destinations in one trip, and if so, what suggestions would you give me and how was it?

Thank you SO much in advance for any help you can provide me with!!

YEs, it is possible to do this trip. We went on our honeymoon to Phuket and Bali. We flew Singapore Airlines, and their local affiliate, Silk Air, local for flights to/ from both locations. This required a connection in Singapore.

I booked everything myself as I knew where I wanted to stay and was able to search the internet for flights. (In Phuket we stayd at the Chedi, in Bali at the Four Seasons in Jimbaran Bay.)But, you might want to start with one of the regional airlines as they likely have packages to both of these locations. Try Singapore, Thai Airlines or Cathay Pacific.

Well, Bali seems to be a no-go zone for the near future. Several bomb explosions in Kuta and Ubud killing and wounding many people (and tourists). Obviously terrorist attacks. Crazy world.

Yes, I felt very bad about Bali.

One minor warning, Phuket is located near the border with Malaysia. A large number of population was Muslims even through Thailand is a Buddhist country. Many radical Muslims from Indonesia actually hided in Phuket.

Okay. I do not think that you should avoid a country because it is Muslim.

Previous post is simple trash! If something happens in Greece does it mean there's a problem in Spain?

NotTrash Oct 16th, 2002 07:38 AM

It's not trash. Greece and Spain are not flooded with Muslims and Islamic Extremists. I, for one, would prefer to stay 3 or 4 countries away from countries with predominantly muslim populations. The Jihad is here and I want no part of it.

In terms of Thailand, less than 4% of the population is Muslim. 95% is Buddisht. According to the world fact book, most of the muslims in Thailand live on the border with Malaysia, which is well south of Phuket.

NOT trash. You must of never been too southern Spain. and by the way Spaniards have strong Morish roots..

As for Greece, have you ever heard of November 17.. they are not muslem yet they want too get you..

Uh Oh, the mighty Greeks want to get me?

I'm very scared.

Veronica, its people that have their head in the clouds, like you, that are the reason there were so many westerners in Bali at that particular time.
I am currently backpacking Asia and in all the hostels everyone said to me, "let's go to Bali, its cheap". My response was always, "there are terrorist warnings for Indonesia and I am not interested in putting myself at risk". Their response was always something like, "oh, not in Bali, Bali is safe". Well, history tells the rest...
You go to these spots if you want to, but dont encourage other people to put themselves at risk over issues that, more than likely, have absolutely nothing to do with them.

The only times, thankfully, that I have been in a place where there have been frightening bomb scares have been were both in London. I have been the victim of minor voilence, once in the USA and once in France. I considor Asia safe!
