Hey guys,

question about tickets. Was gonna fly from LAX to bkk in mid jan, returning mid february. What can i expect to pay for in air travel on ECONOMY flight? When is the best time to purchase tickets for that travel period?

Best time to book? ASAP. Good/cheap flights for January which is the high season go mid-year. Book accommodation soon too for the same reason.

expect to pay a low of about $900 and high of $1500....look at thai air direct, united, japan, northwest, eva, among others....

You'll have to do your research. Often, individual airlines own website have better deals so you'll need to check them. And check back daily, as the fares change that often.

We just booked the LAX-BKK flight in March on Thai Airways for $962 ($1180 incl. taxes and fees).

Just checked and it is the same for mid-Jan. - mid- Feb. I thought it seemed like a good price (and rhkkmk has confirmed that) particularly for the nonstop flight - this is the only one.

We paid about $1100 for a mid January 08 departure and that was from Houston so you should be able to do better than that from LAX>

Just for the heck of it, I typed mid-Jan/mid Feb dates on Kayak. Fares as low as $881 on China Airlines and $1000 on Eva. Neither is direct though. The direct flight on Thai is $1180 as jgg said. You do pay a premium for the direct flight.

The Thai Air direct flight is worth the extra money. The travel will be much easier. Thai Air is a wonderful carrier.

i was working with united this AM for FF tickets for may/june, 2008....i got the outgoing from jfk easily but the return is a mess....from may 10 to june 27 i was unable to get two FF seats on thai...so now the games begin....have other options like the united flight, ANA fligts etc. but want the full thai treatment....

I live in L.A. County and fly that route twice a year for vacation. Expect to pay...highest...right under $1500. total on Thai Air...nonstop, 17hr.10 minute flight that leaves out of LAX around 10:30PM and arrives into Bangkok two days later at around 6:40AM. HAppy Travels!

Just bought tickets for Nov-Dec from LAX for $890 on EVA all taxes included, 1.5 hour stop in Taipei.

www.kayak.com and www.sidestep.com are your best bets for price comparison shopping.

My ticket is for this Dec/Jan during high season. I've never paid over the high $1400s...although there are lower fares to be found. I like Thai Air best...non-stop...plus, they're hooked up with United's frequent flyer program. So,all of those freqent flyer miles I use for free tickets to Europe. I get at least 18,000 miles per round trip L.A.-Bangkok and only need 50,000 for my free ticket to Europe. It works out quite well since I take two vacations a year to Thailand. Happy Travels!

It's usually cheaper leaving in November. Air fares jump up around the second week in December and onward. Happy Travels!

I was also pricing tkts JFK-BKK on Thai for February/March and they were all pricing out at about $1,150 or so. That's a bit more than prices last year.

I can get a bit cheaper fares on China Air and maybe Korean but, as others say, the Thai non stop is great. I still see good fares for the fall on Singapore and Malaysia Air, from NYC, but, it seems once December comes around those fares disappear.

If anyone sees some cheaper Thai fares to BKK, or thereabouts, or some other fare sale, pls let us know. Thanks.
