THAILAND - photo journey

Let me start by Thanking everyone for all the great posts. The suggestions on this forum made our first trip to Thailand a great one.
We spent about 3 days in BKK at the Old Bangkok Inn, about 5 in Railey (Krabi) at the Sunrise Tropical Resort, two more days in Phi Phi at Phi-Phi The Beach Resort and finally a spectacular week in Khao Lak at the Sarojin Resort and Spa. What a place!!!

I'm not big on long trip reports but I take a lot of photos. Here's a link to my photo-sharing page. Just click on the golden buddah. Each gallerry has a small synopsis at the top.

I'm also glad to answer any questions about the places we stayed at.

Enjoy, and thanks again to all!

Thanks. The trick for the pictures is a really wide angle lens It gives a lot of larger subjects a unique perspective.

The water at the Sarojin was very nice (and bath-water warm too), but it always seemed to be very cloudy. There's a lot of sand floating around so it's hard to see any jellyfish... and we saw a few washed up on shore every day. The best part of that beach were the shells. If you like to walk along and collect them you will find every shape, size and variety there.

Absolutely beautiful shots, I just love the 10mm wide shots. I too have the Canon 30D and have often dreamed of getting something wider than my 17-40L. What 10mm lens have you used in these shots, is it the Canon 10-22.
Great shots, especially Krabi.

Yup, that's the lens. If you were shooting full frame your 17-40 would perform about the same. I guess that's why they made the 10-22mm (so you could get the 16-35mm equivalent on a 1.6x crop factor camera).

Terrific photos!

Alas, we wont make it to the Thai coast at all this trip, my first *real* trip to S.E. Asia...perhaps another time. It sure looks relaxing!

Beautiful photos! The snorkeling pics in the Similans were incredible. You say you used a basic underwater camera. May I ask what kind?

Loved the pictures. Haven't made it to any of the thai beaches yet but the bkk pics brought back a lot of memories.

Hi Laurieco,
The camera was a SEALIFE reefmaster DC-600. It's a normal 6.1 MegaPixel camera that is sold with it's own waterproof housing. At $499 it's entry level for an underwater camera and it takes a lot of practice and perfect conditions to get a great shot. I also had to colour-correct a lot of the pics in Photoshop due to the inevitable blue/green haze you get in most underwater images.
When the subjects were close to the surface and in good light it did perform very well. It also has video capability but the battery life is horrendous

Really loved you BKK pics- that's all I have had time to look at yet. Am currently redoing our bedroom in a Thai style, brought home lovely silk and have made curtains and your photos are much better than any I took. I just wonder, there are a couple I'd love to frame that so speak of Thailand/BKK. can you send that file to me if I give you my email address. (I'm not about to sell them, just relive our wonderful memories in BKK).

Hello Sue,
Thanks for your comments, I'm flattered but I'm sorry I cannot send out my original files. It would be like handing out my negatives (which a photographer never does). I have been considering allowing prints to be ordered from my sumgmug account, but I have not had a chance to do this yet.

Send me a message and in the meantime I'd be happy to send you a couple of prints. Here's my hotmail account: [email protected].

Regards,
Adriano

Okay, I've added the "order print" function on most of the Thai galleries if anyone else is interested.
Sue, I hope you're able to get what you wanted.
Thanks again for all the positive feedback!

This is great, thanks so much, I'll let you know what I order and if I'm able to do it.
