Thai kickboxing, ladyboy show, etc in BKK

A lot of people said to us, that when we go to Bangkok we must set a time to see the ladyboy show, Thai kickboxing (illegal?) and the 'adult' show...
How do we find out about the shows and how to book the tickets?
Any inputs/suggestions?
TIA!

Why would you think that Thai kickboxing is illegal? For the 'adult' show - are you looking to participate or watch?

Excuse the poor attempt at humor, at your expense. Some here think that they are "above" this type of question. I really dont know why they bother to answer at all. It it possibly just to fuel their own ego's.

Muay Thai is pretty much the National Sport of Thailand and there are several stadiums in Bangkok where you can see some "authentic" matches and many more venues in tourist bar area's where they will put on a "show". I have been to Lumphini stadium that can be accessed quite easily as there is a Subway station of the same name right next to it. You can book tickets at most hotels and travel agents but they are likely to sell you inflated priced "VIP" tickets. If you just turn up and purchase a cheaper seat, you will sit a bit further away from the ring but the atmosphere in these areas can be electric.

One of the most popular "Ladyboy" show is the Calypso Cabaret at the Asia Hotel. Again, tickets will be very easy to book.

As for the "Adult" show's, PatPong has the most choice but do be careful. Many of the upstairs bars will try to lure you in, using touts that promise cheap drinks and no cover charge. I have heard of many people being presented with an extraordinary bill when they try to leave and the scene can turn nasty if you try to dispute the bill. The entertainment itself is fairly seedy and lacklustre. If you must go, try one of the bigger ground level places. The drinks will be expensive but the Devil you know is much easier to contend with.

Dont stop....You're on a roll. A few more "classic's" like that and you may even get a spot in the Calypso show. Hanuman in tights warming up the crowd. That would be worth the price of entry.

Wait. Was that a retaliatory joke? I couldn't tell.

Do you just pop up every couple months to complain?

BTW, to the OP: I wouldn't recommend going to see a sex show on your vacation to Thailand. Why travel (presumably) thousands of miles to see what you could catch at any Scores, Cheetah Club or on, based on some of the more lewd acts performed at these "bars", some online porn site for much cheaper?

Some on here might consider this sort of activity "culture", but really you'd just be contributing to an ugly stereotype of why foreigners go to Thailand.

The country has much more to offer in terms of real culture on so many levels. Focus on your other recommendations.

Do you consider a "drag" show culture Bill?

If your reference is pointed to me, please note that I also attempted to discourage the OP from attending these shows, even though I stopped short of recommending cyber porn as an alternative. To each his own.

I dispute your notion that I come here every few months to complain. I just try to respond to some of the questions that tend to go unanswered, without trying to ridicule the OP. You can go back to your cheerios now.

Why, I sure do consider the kathoey culture a very integral and unique part of the Thai culture--is it not? The Calypso show itself may be an overblown version of that...and a complete tourist trap, but at least the folks who go aren't putting money towards to oppression and abuse of underage girls for the folly of pasty, swollen-ankled, lecherous ex-pats.

On the flipside of that coin, popping ping pong balls out of your papoose sure ain't contributing to any sort of culture or artform in Thailand. At least we all can agree on that.

Thanks for your permission to eat again. I'd been fasting until your response.

"Popping Ping Pong Balls out of your Papoose"....Classic!!! That really is worthy of a cheerio spit.

"Kathoey Culture"...That is a little bit harder to digest. There are many "swollen-ankled, lecherous ex-pats" as well as the "wrong" type of tourists, that delve into this "culture" in what I would deem to be an undesireable way. There are also many young, confused, underaged boys that are drawn into this as a source of income.

However, I dont deem it necessary to be-little someone who asks a question about either of these voyeuristic experiences. I have twice been to one of these "adult" shows, once with my wife because she request to go see it, and I can say catagorically that it would be more likely to put someone off committing lewd acts with opressed underaged girls than incite that type of behaviour. In actual fact, the "ping pong poppers" and dart shooters were middle aged with multiple stretch marks. I wouldn't go again, but to each his owm.

I am also glad to know that you are eating once more and I hope that my remarks dont put you off your food again.

Oh gosh..I'm sorry, I meant no harm nor trying to trigger anything by posting this...

Thank you for the replies. I will check out the Calypso Cabaret and the muay thai at the Lamphini stadium.
