Thai extended visa

On my many trips to Thailand, I usually stay only the 30 days the free visa allows. However, I would like to stay an additional 3-5 days on my next trip. I know I have seen in the airport that there is a 500 B fine per day if you have extended your stay. Has anyone been through this experience on your departure? Is it consider a big offence to do this? Does it take much time to pay the fine and be on your way?

I know to extend your visa while in Thailand takes time and $60 US. It is not an option to do a border run. It just seems easier and cheaper to pay the fine at the airport. I just don't know if it's acceptable and since I make 2 trips a year, don't want to jeopardize my trips. Any input would be appreciated.

You can get a longer visa in advance, which is easy. I did it many years ago when you only got 14 or 15 days on arrival and we were staying three weeks, We got our visas (60 days as I remember) in advance - processing took only a few days.

I miscounted the days on our last visit in 2015 and we overstayed by three days. It was no big deal. We were taken to an office, a form was filled, the cash was paid and we were on our way within 5-10 mins. The immigration staff were very friendly not at all bothered that we had overstayed.

Thanks for the help. Any other thoughts or experiences about this?

We avoid it like the plague but then we live here!

Safer to go to immigration and do it there.
