Thai Buffets
Looking for great Thai Buffet luncheon.
1. Lord Jim's seafood buffet 2. Sokuthai Sunday Jazz brunch 3. Royal Orchid Sheraton - does it have a Thai buffet? 4. Grand Hyatt Erawan - Thai buffet but order from a menu. 5. JW Marriott - White Elephant Restaurant Thai buffet - went there last year - great! Cant remember cost but it was reasonable. 6. Any other recommended Thai buffets? Which one do you like? Thanks! |
I can only tell you about a couple of these.
3. Royal Orchid does not have a Thai buffet. It has an excellent Thai restaurant, and it has a Mediterranean restaurant (Gorgio's) that has a buffet. I haven't eaten there in years, but they used to have a wealth of salads and cold dishes, a pasta station, hot meat and seaood dishes and a crepes suzettes station. 4. The "order form the menu" buffet at the Grand Hyatt is excellent. The food is all cooked fresh (so much better than having been held on a buffet table!) and the selection is excellent. It gets my vote as the best place to sample a broad selection of Thai dishes. |
one of the best but only on sundays is the indian brunch at rang mahal in the rembrandt hotel...must have a reservation and ask for a window seat...this is like on the 26th floor and you have a fabulous view all over bkk..
conrad hotel dim sum...everyday at lunch...fixed price, eat from a menu, all you can eat...the best dim sum i have ever had.... almost every major hotel has a buffet at lunch.. the jw marriott, soi 2 sukhumvit road has a good thai buffet at lunch on the 2nd floor---sorry i didn't see you had that one... we don't generally like buffets for health reasons....how long has it sat there...how was it treated from kitchen to table...fresh cooked is what we prefer to protect the remaining vacation time....it works for us... |
Lord Jim's buffet is faboulous. It is truly international -- everything from sushi to Inidan foods to American/European to Thai. And all of it is superb in a gorgeous setting.
Also at the Oriental is the wonderful all-Thai food buffet at Sala Rim which is across the river. The food is excellent -- much better than if you go when they are doing the dance performance in the evening. And the atmosphere is lovely. |
at the oriental's dance performance i found the food to be only OK...
|
rhkkmk-- I agree about the food at Sala Rim's dance performance. It is no better than ok. The food at the lunch buffet or outside at dinner is 100% better. In fact, it is excellent. The food at the dance show is basically geared to tour buses.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE APPROXIMATE PRICES? WE ARE LOOKING FOR MODERATE.
|
I think the lunch at Lord Jim is $20 or $25. Sala Rim buffet is $15 I think.
|
The night buffet on the outside terrace of the Oriental Hotel is great..mostly Thai food and some Western ( seafood cooked while you are there ). Very classy and it is delightful sitting by the river watching the lights and boats going up and down. You need to book a table in advance.Good luck !
|
this summer the lord jim buffet is now at $27 U.S....getting expensive for lunch, but you would not need dinner...
conrad dim sum was 440 B per person or about $11....a steal... i think hyatt was about $15 dinner at harmonique is between $12 and 24 for two as a comparison |
Do most of these places have the buffets everyday or just on certain days. The Dim Sum at the Conrad sounds good but how do you order a buffet off the menu?
|
The ones at the Oriental are every day.
|
most are at least every day during the week, some change on weekends...
menu/buffet....you are correct...it is like a buffet in that you are entitled to all you want to eat...you remain seated...it is buffet like in that you could eat all apps, or all desserts if you choose... a small menu is presented and you choose from it, including re-ordering the same thing if you choose... |
Sala Rim Thai Buffet 680 baht inclusive of service charge and tax.
Oriental Hotel american breakfast at Veranda Restaurant $22 plus 17.7% service charge and tax. How is the breakfast there? Thanks! |
Do you recommend another place for a dinner show wiht Thai music and dance that has better food than the Oriental, or is the show at the Oriental so good that it is worth it even if the food is only so-so?
|
Why a buffet ? Why not try eating at a roadside restaurant ? The best food in our recent trip was bought like that. King prawns, asparagus, and loads of other great ingredients. Only cost $5 for 2 of us. If you don't like a dish order another. Fresh cooked food is always, always better.
|
Breakfast at the Oriental is wonderful because of its location -- it's great sitting on the river. I've never paid because it's included in the price of the room but I can't imagine any breakfast that would be worth $22!
Actually, the $22 is for their breakfast buffet. If you want to order ala carte you can do it for a lot less money. |
Gloria- I'll bet you that if you stay at those $500/night properites- breakfast would probably exceed $30!
Worth it? - no I don't think so. |
Thank you to all.
Oriental Hotel Lord Jim lunch buffet was delicious. We got a window seat. Thank you also to SidB. We did try some road side restaurants. They were great too. In Laos, on a river cruise, we stopped for lunch and ordered fish. We saw the waiter run down to the riverside, pull up a fish that was on a string, brought it up to the restaurant. We were wondering if that was our fish. It was! |
Kathie,
re your comment: The "order form the menu" buffet at the Grand Hyatt is excellent. Which restaurant is this buffet? The Dining room? Is the cuisine a blend of international and Thai or just Thai? |
