we currently have reservations in Phuket for the month of Feb. Are there other comparable resort areas not affected by the tsunami that could be recommended?

Look at any of the beaches/island on the eastern side of Thailand, as they were not affected. Consider, for instance, Koh Samui, or Hua Hin on the mainland.

The website Sawadee.com has a map of the area showing where damage has occured. They're also providing damage reports for the hotels although the majority of hotels are still pending results. I believe they also have an emergency relocation hotline for Sawadee/R24 travellers. Hope this helps.

East from Bangkok you have Pattaya and Jomtien Beach on the mainland, then the islands of Koh Samet and Koh Chang. Travel south from Bangkok by road to mainland coastal resorts such as Cha Am and Hua Hin ( biggest in this particular area, Hyatt Regency, Anantara, Chiva Som, Sofitel, Regent, Dusit etc), still in Hua Hin area you have Khao Takiab and Pranburi areas with Aleenta, Praseban and Evason resorts. Further down the coast you have small beach areas like Chumphon, offshore Koh Tao and then just south is Koh Samui. If you tell us the standard of hotel you planned on then many can makes suggestions based on where you planned to give ideas of similar places. Do note that a large number of Phuket hotels were either relataively unaffected or not effected at all.

We just got back from koh chang and it was wonderful! from what i read it was not hit at all! we stayed right on the beach at the barali reasot bungalows, it was VERY nice and not too expensive.
