I am visiting Thailand for the first time for my honeymoon in July/August. I will be spending 3 days in Bangkok, 6 in Chiang Rai, 6 in Khao Lak and then back to Bangkok for one night before returning to NYC. I have the flights to and from BKK all squared away and hotels are booked but I need to sort out the internal flights. I was wondering whether it is better to get a discovery pass with Thai Airways orto go with individual Air Asia flights. Any insight form anyone who has flown with both would be really helpful. Thanks!

i've had very good luck with air asia---supersize luggage and buy seat reservations for sure..

If you are just travelling to Chiang Rai and Khao Lak then I would just choose an airline that is most convenient for you and at the price level you want.

For Chiang Ria the following airlines fly to there and back from Bangkok: Thai Airways(full fare),Air Asia and Orient Thai(low cost).

For Khao Lak(Phuket airport + taxi): Thai Airways, Air Asia, Orient Thai and Nok Air - good low cost with assigned seat and luggage allowance but fly from Bangkok Don Mueang airport.

air asia you need to add money for each thing you will be doing, so luggage, seat, insurance...all and it could go from 50 euros to 150 euros

thai airways have quite high price in general but yes they sometimes allow more kg apparently

Thai Air is higher priced than Air Asia, because it is a full-service airline. You always get a standard luggage allowance of 20 kg, you get a pre-asigned seat, etc. Those are basic differences between budget airlines and full-service airlines.
