Thai Air Asia Budget has been launched

Thai Air Asia has launched, flights start next month, tried a BKK to Phuket return and was offered $2.50 each way, checked all the add-ons and a return came out at about B 536 ( that is around USD 14 return ). They will fly B 737-400's, the online booking is now available.
You can find the link on Kooloo plus other dmestic carriers in Asia.

I found it through www.airasia.com. The deal referred to above is good through 2/29/04. However, I booked 2 roundtrip tickets from Bangkok to Phuket for $34 US each RT. Compare this price to Air Thai's internet special of $126 US RT. What a deal!

Just tried and it's working ok.

Interesting point that when I tried to book a KL flight from Phuket most if not all the cheap seats were gone, although a long time in advane, although still a fair deal it was not bottom line price. It's good though and sure makes a huge difference. One Two Go is doing Chiang Mai already but the website is so basic. Thai Airways due to launch their own one very soon.
It's great new all round for cheap travel!!

One-Two-Go is owned by Orient Thai which uses 747-200's on regional charters, they started with 757's (!?!) on Chiang Mai route but the website either doesn't load or when it does has little content, certainly no on-line booking.
Thai Air Asia is a joint venture with the very successful Air Asia of Malaysia. Thai is about to decide on a partner, Virgin has been mentioned.
Nothing on Koh Samui, the runywa 'can' take a 717 but a 737 cannot t/off with anything like the load necessary to make it viable, from whjat I have seen/know the plane would perhaps have to be half full. Also the famous B 500 ($13) domestic tax is a big add-on when you are talking budget flights.
Still though, you need to use a credit card, I don't know if anyone has considored how few domestic passengers actually would posses a Credit Card, but I think TAA will be making a deal so it is easy to get tickets. My suggestion would be 7-11's who already can handle Phone bill etc so they have the set-up. I think unless Koh Samui gets some better fares to/from it could actually loose out on the basis of the air fares being not just as high as they are now but very high when compared to the Phuket fares.
Budget airlines 'must' survive on regular domestic home-grown business to fill the seats as they don't interline etc but on the Samui route you would never see 'average' local earners flying, they have to ferr/bus or train, the retun air fare is aound 6 weeks base pay!
