Thai air

Just found out that Thai air non stop from LAX to BKK will be discontinued in May. In addition, there will be no preminum economy any more. The new flight will have a 1 1/2 hour layover in Seoul.

It was inevitable. I'm shocked they lasted this long. The plane they use to do the nonstop is a total gas-guzzler and in this economy with fuel prices being what they are--and the loads not being so great on the flights to begin with--it was a huge money loss for Thai.

It's a shame that we lose the one nonstop option we had directly to SE Asia, but honestly I think Thai's service has slipped so much in the past few years that I'll enjoy flying much more with other carriers even if it means a stop or two.

Just flew ANA to Bangkok via Tokyo a few weeks ago and I have to say it was the *best* service I've ever had on a flight to Asia yet.

Yes you're right Will, Thai service did drop somewhat.
However, they have cut lots of flights and the awful 747's have gone.
They even used 747's between Bangkok and Phuket. No more.
Our recent experience was airbus on all flights and the service was very much back to how it used to be.
Of course I'm talking about flights from U.K., but for me VERY clearly a direct flight is the only way I would consider. Any lay over en-route is just such a waste of time. A waste of good traveling time. Enjoy flying??? A stop or two ?????? No way!!!.
For me....flying is just an unfortunate necessity

Over the last 25 years, I've traveled a lot on Thai, in all classes, and I've always found them below par with many other Asian carriers.

You do get the best welcome while you are boarding but the rest of the service and amenities are pretty average.

I'll stick with Singapore Air. Happy Travels!
