TET celebration-- Vietnam

I will be in Vietnam for Tet next coming year which I believe is January 29, 2006. Will the country "shut down" and what actually happens during this time? I believe we will be in Hue for the beginning and then traveling on into HCMC later in the week. Is this generally a good time to be here in Vietnam? I'm sure someone has experienced this celebration.....

I was in Saigon several years ago for Tet. The airport was chaos. It is a very busy time. Many people traveling to be with families. Everything does not shut down. If you are talking about restaurants you should check the ones you might be interested in to see if they are closed. I found it a fun time to be there as everyone was in such a holiday spirit. To them Tet is Christmas and birthday rolled into one. I went to a Vietnamese home where I took cookies to be placed with pictures of the ancestors which they would use in their celebration of Tet when everyone arrived. Not sure about Hue, but sure it would be like Saigon except not as busy as Saigon.

Shut down? You mean stores and restaurants? No, not all of them. I will be visiting family by this time. If you email me at plzsendtome@ hotmail.com, probably I will give more advices.
