Terminal Travel Time in Bangkok

Hi, I will be flying into Bangkok on November 7th on China Airlines. My flight arrives at 1:05 pm from Los Angeles. I'm trying to book a flight from Bangkok to Siem Reap, Cambodia, for November 7th. There is a departure from Bangkok to Siem Reap that departs at 2:50 pm. I think that's cutting it close. I suspect I'll need to claim my luggage, go through customs, and then make my way to the terminal where Air Asia is. The other flight is at 7 pm. I just want to get to the hotel because I will have been traveling for many, many hours. But, if 7 pm is a safe bet, so be it. Your thoughts?

I wouldn’t even think about it! Even on the same airline it would be a big risk unless booked as a connecting flight on a single ticket. Also there are two airports serving Bangkok BKK and DMK with quite. Distance between the two China would fly into BKK but most Air Asia flights are from DMK , although there are a few from BKK. I could be wrong, but chances are it would not only be a different terminal bu5 a completely different airport.

a couple of days ago I my flight from Madrid to Mexico City was delayed by 45 mins. If that happened to you, you would miss your flight.

It looks like you will have 6 hrs between flights if you take a 7 pm flight but in actuality you'll have only 3 hrs of dead time. You'll go through Immigration, collect your bags, etc, and maybe be through a bit before 2 pm. If you have to change airports, give yourself an hour and a half for that simply because of traffic etc. Then you need to check your bags in before bag drops closes, which is often an hour before departure. Basically, you should be in line by 5 pm to get your flight to Siem Reap.

I truly appreciate the feedback/info, it is very helpful. CRELLSTON: thanks for the reminder...I did check so yes, I would fly out of BKK to Siem Reap. EZ73, major thanks ! I guess I could do some duty free shopping while waiting :-)

Peace and everything good to you both ~

Additional Question re Travel in SouthEast Ascia

Thank you for the info and advice regarding traveling from Bangkok to Siem Reap. I hadn't noticed two different airports. I'm glad you mentioned that, and I paid extra to continue to fly out of Bangkok after landing in Bangkok from Los Angeles. Now, I'm looking to book flights from Siem Reap to Hanoi and then from Hanoi to Bangkok. It seems like there are no mid-morning or early afternoon-flights. If there is, there are very long layovers. There are some flights that I'm looking at, particularly Siem Reap to Hanoi, with an 1 hour/45 minute layovers, which raises the question of whether there is ample time to get from Cambodia to Vietnam. I suspect that I will have to go through customs and secure my luggage and then recheck in to continue my journey into Vietnam.

Also, if you know, what are your thoughts on VietJet Air or Vietnam Airlines? Lots of poor reviews for VietJet.

Thank you,

I am not sure I understand your post. Are you wanting to spend a few days in Hanoi and then fly to Bangkok or just looking at flights from Siem Reap to Bangkok? If the latter then just get a direct AirAsia flight from SR a to DMK and you won’t have to worry about connection times.

That said , Hanoi is a great city and worth a few days if you have time.
I would avoid Vietjet like the plague.

Vietnam Airlines is usually good. I would choose any other airline over VietJet.

I just flew Turkish Airlines into BKK and there was a significant delay before the baggage carousel was turned on and bags began coming through. The flight landed around 10:15 AM, but I didn't get my bag until 11:15 AM. There's always risks when you take flight routes with multiple carriers and short layovers. Not worth the stress to me. Why don't you just spend a night in Bangkok and then fly on to Cambodia the next day?
