Temperature in December?

Fodors says that the avg Japan temps in Dec are 30 - 60 degrees. That's quite a spread. What am I looking at realistically 12/26 - 1/2?

Highs of 50, lows of 37

and probably no precipitation.

Japan is a "long" country. Temperature in Hokkaido will be much lower than Kyushu, and of course it'll be colder in the mountains.

Depends where you go...we are in Kanazawa, and sometimes it is below freezing. Last year, it snowed 8 inches on the night before we were leaving for the states (maybe Dec 22?) and it was really, really cold.

Tokyo is typically warmer and drier, but still highly variable. You will need a warm jacket and a hat and gloves for just in case it's cold...but you also might have some quite balmy days. Bring clothing for a wide range of temperatures.

On other thread, MizzEve said she would be in Tokyo on those dates. The "When to go to Tokyo" page on fodors.com says temps of 33-60 for Nov-Dec, so I think that is the source of confusion. I did a rough interpolation of the Dec-Jan monthly averages at weather.com Average precip of 1.80" in both Dec and Jan, lowest of the year. Those are averages, so I would be prepared for temps in the 20s.
