taxi time to bangkok airport??
My daughter and I are staying at the Madarin hotel in Bangkok from 14 to 26 march on 20 March we are flying to Chiang Mai for a couple of days and we must be at the airport in Bangkok by no later than 0545 hrs So can anyone tell me about what time I should book a taxi for to get me there at that time as I am unsure of traffic congestion etc at this time of morning.
Also as we have booked our room in Bangkok for the whole time we are planning to leave most of our luggage in our room when we head off to ChiangMai Is this wise??

05:00 will be a good time to leave the hotel. the only problem i can see is maybe the way from the hotel to the Highway but on 5am most of the roads are clean (you have an entrance on Rama 4, few KM from the hotel).
the drive takes 30-45 minutes.
Don't worry about leaving you bags at the hotel, the is no problem with that issue.

I agree with Ben that 5.00 am is a good time to leave the hotel. I will only take you about 1/2 hour but better safe then sorry!
Why don't do check out of your hotel and ask the hotel to keep your luggage for you instead of keeping the room when you're not there? It will save you money and your luggage will be safe at the hotel.

our return flights are usually at 0600 so we book the taxi for 0330 from the marriott...it is perfect timing...it allows plenty of time for the airport check in and usually we avoid long lines that way too....i think it is not bad to go early...
we have wake up calls at 0300, breakfast delivered at 0310 and are out of the room by o325....try to settle your bill the nite before....most hotels will give you free room service breakfast if you have breakfast included in you room price that early in the AM...
its greuling..
of course you do not need to be to the airport as early as we do for a CM flight as ours are international flights, but its good to go early

Yes, 5:00 is a good time to leave to give yourselves a margin of safety.
When you say the Mandarin Hotel, I'm assuming you mean the Mandarian Oriental on the river, generally referred to as the Oriental. There is no reason to pay for your room while you are in CM, check out of your hotel, they will gladly hold your luggage for you while you are away, and check back in on your return. I've left luggage at many hotels and have never had a problem.

just to make sure...
i was talking about the Mandarin hotel, not the Oriental.
The Mandarin hotel is on Rama 4 Rd, 50 Meter from the MRT station ("Sam Yan" if i remember right...)
Anyway, both Mandarin & Oriental are a 30-45 Min Drive from the airport...
