taxi from airport Shanghai
How much will a taxi cost from the airport (PVG) in Shanghai to the city center?
|
Around Y160 upwards depending on time of day and just where in the city centre you are going.
There's a dedicated shuttle bus to various hotels (and some hotels run their own shuttles, of course), and direct services to the city air terminal and elsewhere for between Y17 and Y25 or so. It's much cheaper to take one of these downtown and hop in a cab there (usually best to flag down a passing cab than to take one waiting, but if you take one from the airport ALWAYS take one from the rank and ignore anyone who approaches you). If you want a minor techno-thrill, you can also consider the world's only commercially operating maglev line (the one in Birmingham in the UK now having been converted to conventional rail), which whisks you at speeds of up to 430kmh (briefly) to the edge of town in about eight minutes. There you can take a metro or a cab. Most Pudong hotels are still about ten to fifteen minutes away, and Puxi hotels even further. When I took the line earlier this year it was Y100 (so little saving), but the price has recently been cut, I think to Y50, but perhaps some more recent traveller or resident can confirm or correct that. In July, the one way maglev fare was 40 yuan with a same day air ticket. I posted a report with some photos here:

take the train if you know where you are going or how to get around. I have only seen it wisk by. The first time I flew into Shanghai I was upset as I kept looking up and aeeing the single rail. The taxi is Y140 plus but if you have the chance, take the train either in or out. Make sure you print off the hotel web site where you are staying either the directions in characters or at least a big picture. DO NOT and I will say it again, DO NOT take a ride from one of the hawkers. EVEN if THEY SPEAK ENGLISH. They are 3-4 times more and quite frankly, they could leave you in a ditch somewhere and no one will ever know.

Per my presious post---I was upset since I did not know there was a train. It was not running but the track was built and runs along the highway. Just wanted my comments above to be clear.
