Tawaraya or Hiiragiya in Kyoto?
Has anyone recently stayed at either/both of these ryokan in Kyoto? I've read past entries on Fodor's and Tripadvisor, but many of the entries aren't recent, and each occasionally receives mixed reviews. Is anyone in a good position to compare them? Thanks very much.

We were at the Hiragiiya about 18 months ago. It was our 4th stay there. The rooms are all very different and we have stayed low end to high end. The service was excellent and the food was served course by course. They have also opened a new section next door-very modern and minimalist. We prefer the old section. They have also made a point of remembering us. As for the Tawaraya,it is right down the street from the Hiiragiya. We stayed there once-in 1962, so that doesn't count.
I'm sure either one would be a great treat. Enjoy.
