Tawandang brewery

Re: Tawandang brewery (sp?)
Do you make reservations or just go?
What is a good time at night for the Tawangdang brewery?
Thanks!

Go to Tawandang early. We have never made a reservation. I don't know that you even can make a reservation there. You might try it... If you do, please let me know how you did as far as a good table, after having made a reservation. We always just show up and take our chances. Early is best.
We are normally a group of 8 to 10 or so, with several Thai friends who help us get seated in a good spot. Tawandang is almost all Thais. Very few falongs. That's what makes it such a fun evening.

The best tables are downstairs in the center, near the stage. If you get there around 6 to 6:30 you might get seated there. The last time we went, we had a table upstairs, overlooking the stage. We had to stand up and move around to get a better view when the show got into full swing. Also, I'd say a mid-week night would be better than a weekend night.

The show is worth watching. It starts out with what you might call Thai jazz fusion on traditional Thai instruments, and then it moves on to some Thai dancing and pop songs. It is a wonderful variety. Plan on staying for the evening. You'll be dancing in the aisles with the Thais and having a wonderful time!! I'm so jealous!! I'll be going there again in January, probably sometime during the last week of the month.

The first time I went there, we had a table right up in front, by the stage. It was great fun. I danced with Poo, the "star" singer at that time. I don't think he sings there anymore, but he was really nice to our group. He owns the Garage (a burger restaurant) at All Seasons Place... it is the best place for a burger in BKK in my opinion.

One more thing. Do try the pork Tawandang. It comes on a big bone. It is sooooo tasty!! Yum!! We also have the fish in chili sauce and some tom yong gung. I'm sure I've misspelled these, but you know what I'm talking about, after eating Thai food for a while.

I will be most anxious to hear your impressions of Tawandang. I'm always talking about the place, and I rarely convince fodorites to try it.

This place sounds fun...where is it?

simpsonc510 Dec 18th, 2005 07:54 AM

There are actually two of them now. I've only been to the one that is way out on Rama Rd (I think). Taxi is by far the best way to get there. It's really a fun place! Plus great Thai food.

Here is a web site for Tawandang. You can get it in English or Thai. Hope this helps.

If you do a google search for Tawandang brewery, you will find an article in the BKK post from two days ago, plus other interesting links.

Looks like my favorite BKK night spot might become even busier (and more falongs...)

thanks for the info Carol...this could be a great alternative to the annual big beer garden (near Siam Sq I think?) that has the tents, food and bands

Here is a link for the Bangkok post article

I'm glad to see that the information is aimed at bringing more business, including farongs, towards the new Tawandang. Maybe that will make it easier for me to get a good table at the "old" place!! LOL

IsisMnroe Dec 30th, 2005 08:05 AM

when we phoned the tawandang, there is a recording in thai so we asked our hotel to make reservations. when we got to the tanwandang at 7 pm they could not find our reservations.
they let us be seated anyway and we got close seats to the stage.

it's a great show with a variety of entertainment. we will go back again on our next trip.

thanks simpsonc510

Tawandang is the best combination of food, fun, and entertainment I have found in this town. And very few tourists know about it.

rhkkmk Dec 30th, 2005 08:07 PM

is it on rama III??

IsisMnroe Dec 31st, 2005 04:16 AM

There's a similar type of brewery "Coliseum" near the Thong lor skytrain exit. The waitresses treated us royally.

But the Tawangdang brewery has better entertainment.

BradinBangkok Dec 31st, 2005 11:24 PM

Yes it is on Rama III. The fastest way to get there is to take a taxi from the Chong Nonsi skytrain station.

Tawandaeng is fab - love it!

Coliseum is OK - convenient transport wise. But beers are warm and expensive. Also hear that some of the later shows are a tad risque!

Yeah, there are two of them. There was a full page in the Bangkok Post on Dec 16th (?)...with a photo of the new one that's a ways out. It's HUGE and has acrobats and other entertainment. Lots of Thai families go there. I started to go, but haven't had time. Happy Travels!

Yeah,Carol, I hear the place is jumpin'. Some Thai friends and I started to go in January 2006. There was an article on the place in one of my Thai/English magazines. I remember that it's way out someplace. They have a big parking lot since many folks seem to come in cars. It seems that a lot of Thai families go there. Happy Travels!

Guenmai Jul 6th, 2006 06:50 AM

Isis...Didn't you and significant other end up going there after we got together in Dec 2005 in Bk? I remember you were talking about it the night we got together. I didn't notice that this post was from 2005. Happy Travels!
