Tamarind Village Help

We are going to be in Chiang Mai from Feb.23-Mar.8. We tried to reserve a room at Tamarind Village through Thaihotels.com at the lower rate ($36/night). They replied that this was not available, just the more expensive rate ($65/night).
Should we try another site to get a lower rate? Or, should we try to find a comparable hotel? We really had our heart set on Tamarind, esp. after all the nice things everyone has said about it on this board. However, that is a big price difference that we aren't sure if we can afford. Thanks for your help!

You might also try www.planetholiday.com or www.circleofasia.com, internet hotel booking sites which have also been recommended here on fodors. Although it's possible that the lower and higher prices reflect low and high season rates.

I have booked for 6 nights in November through asiatravel.com
They are offering rates of THB2,600net,incl. breakfast for Deluxe Room or THB 2,200 for Superior.
Thats US$62 or $53, rates available until Oct.05, & includes all taxes.
Its a pay at hotel arrangement and although I haven't used them before, I am very impressed so far. They seem very efficient and respond to e-mails very promptly. The Tamarind is delightful. Stayed there in 2002.Good luck.
