Tamara is back from Thailand!! Trip report to follow!
 

I just returned home about 2 hours ago and, as you can imagine, the jet lag is taking its toll on me.

We had an amazing trip! I will post a full report in a few days but if you are leaving soon and want some info I would be happy to answer questions. Here is our itinerary in brief:

3 nights Bangkok at Center Pointe Silom. Fabulous place in a great location!

1 night Asia Hotel (we decided to stay an extra day and the Center Point was booked) Good location, ok place for a night.

2 nights Toh Ko Bungalows on the eastern side of Ko Phi Phi Don. We loved this place although it is basic. Very friendly, toilets in bungalows.

3 nights Sunrise Tropical on East Railey. Superb resort!!! Couldn't have imagined it being any better although the food was mediocre.

4 nights Siem Reap at Auberge Mont Royal. Nice place, decent breakfast, great location.

4 nights Chiang Mai at Baan Orapin. This place isn't fancy but it is really a wonderful little oasis in the outskirts of fairly hectic Chiang Mai. Opas and Ananchuna are very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.

2 nights in Chiang Dao at Chiang Dao Nest. This in north of Chiang Mai about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Incredible spot, nice bungalows and fantastic people!!! I called it our "little jungalow" because it was a bungalow in the middle of lots of foliage. We both loved this place! Hot water bathrooms in the bungalows.

2 nights Bangkok at Davis Hotel. A bit off the beaten path but they have a shuttle to the sky train every 1/2 hour. We didn't like it as much as the Center Pointe Silom. Geared towards the business traveler.

Glad you had a wonderful time. Very thoughtful of you to provide this pre-Trip Report post. I've checked with the Board and by filing this post, you get a one week extension before the Deliquency Penalty begins.

glad it all went well and i will look forward to your full report....i note your comments on davis hotel and hope you will elaborate more about this in the full report....it has been totally overlooked by fodorites as a potential save one or two short posts....

So glad you enjoyed, it really shows how time goes by when someone starts with 'we are thinking about going to....' and then we come all the way to 'We're back....' !

I will go into more details about the hotels in my full report. I have photos of most of them except the Davis.

James, we will definitely be going back soon! We both agreed that we would only go during the "cool" season of Nov.-Jan.

I will begin my report later today. I am warning you all that I tend to write fairly detailed and lengthy trip reports!

i hate to burst a bubble, but the cool season is an urban myth....this year for some reason the end of 2005 was quite cool but that was very adnormal....but continue with your planning and pretend it is cooler...oh yes it is cooler---instead of 93 degrees F and 200% humidity it will probably be 91 degrees and 199% humidity....haha

Hence the reason I put cool in quotation marks, Bob. ;-) I can't imagine being there in April or May!

I do, however, think that Kansas City in August is comprable to the temp in Bangkok.
