Takayama - Hida Beef restaurant ?
We are looking for a restaurant in Takayama that serves Hida Beef ( Japanese style - yakiniku, etc ). We've heard about "Marauki" - welcome feedback if you've dined there or any others. Also, what price range are we looking at?
Thank you. |
Hi, HLW -
A few years ago, I had an absolutely wonderful meal of Hida beef and local mountain vegetables at Suzuya in Takayama. Here's some information: http://www.frommers.com/destinations...ma/D50541.html Enjoy! |
Hida beef is usually included in the dinners served at ryokan. Otherwise, there are any number of restaurants that serve it. You can even buy it at some stands that sell it on a stick grilled on a hibachi.
Price range varies from under ¥1000 for a stick to over ¥10,000 for a set meal...depends on where you go and what you order. Most stand alone restaurants do not have any English language website so it will be difficult to choose that way, as I'm sure you have found. What I would do would be to ask for recommendations once I was in Takayama...ask at tourist information, at your hotel, shops...anyone who seems friendly may have a good idea. We have found the best restaurants that way. |
We had a fantastic meal of hida beef in Red Miso in Sumiyoshi Ryokan as part of teh set meal. Absolutely memorable! One of the best places is above a butchers shop in the main street. Sorry but I can't remember teh name but it is well known and in a no. of guide boks so you should be able to find out online. PS. Takayama was a highlight of the Japan section of our RTW trip.

Thanks all for your feedback - what a coincidence... we're actually booked for a night at Sumiyoshi - we didn't realise they had Hida beef with the dinner menu! Looking forward to the meal.
PS> apologies for the delay thanks! |
You will enjoy your stay at Sumiyoshi the ladies that run the place are great fun! Here is a link to our blog which has a few photos etc.
