Taipei visit in December, 24 yr old male

My son is visiting Taipei for 4 weeks and is interested in bicycling around the city. Are there rentals? should he ship his bike there? is it a reasonable city to bike in?
Any hints about traveling in Taiwan would be appreciated. Thanks already.

I know there are bike rentals along the many bike trails around the city and I have recently seen (outside the Grand Hyatt) the sort of bikes-to-borrow model that you see in some European cities. As you may know, Giant bicycles are a Taiwan product and there are Giant stores all over the city. You might also ask on Lonely Planet about bike rentals.

The Taiwanese love to bike, and they not only use the numerous bike paths around the city, but the tough bikes ride up the steep hills into Yangmingshan, the national park right outside Taipei. For the even more intrepid, you can bike all the way around the island -- it would probably take you about a week or more, depending on your pace.

I suspect the Taiwan government tourist web sites will have information on this -- they have been promoting biking for tourists.

The weather in December is usually nice. He should have a great time.
