I know that there are many posts on tailors in bangkok , but none too recent and most or all are for men.
I will be in Laos and Bangkok in Jan and wondering where to get womens suits made. I had a couple made in Chaing Mai a few years ago but wont be going that way again this trip.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I will plan to spend a couple of days in Bangkok if that is best, otherwise just head straight to Laos. Doing my flight planning now which is why I am asking six months in advance.

I'd certainly choose Bangkok for tailoring. Laos will not have the availability of fabrics you see in Bangkok, nor is it a place for tailoring.

Cotton House, in Oriental Place, is often recommended. There are also several wome's tailors at River City. If you can bring along garmets to copy, that will give you the best results. Remember, the best predictor of satisfaction with tailoring is the number of fittings.

my wife likes jack at monet il sarto at the marriott plaza on the river and also cotton house at OP Place behind the oriental hotel

she also uses JS Thai silk in river city next to the royal orchid sheraton

Having something for them to copy does make it easier to get a final product you are happy with. Also know where you want your shoulder seams at, how long front and back,pant length, where you like your sleves to end...either short or long.... how low you want your neck line, what kinds of collars and lapels you like. These are things we take for granted, but are variables in a hand made product. As Kathie says the better fabrics and choices are probably in BKK. I have used cotton house and JS Thai silk in Rivercity. No matter which country at lest 3 fittings really help to give you something you are happy with.

thanks for the info. I will plan to stay a few days in Bangkok before heading to Laos. Do you think a picture will do, as my current clothes will be too big for me?

You really should bring the originals for the best result. Even if they are too big. In my opinion, your satisfaction will depend on your taste and what you will be happy with. I've seen some pretty terrible custom made clothing in my time! And also some great looking items.

Remember that, besides the fabric, you need to think about the quality of the buttons/zippers and even the thread. Sometimes the smallest detail, one that would not occur to you the first time, will derail an entire garment. (Thread in the wrong color; shoddy button holes, etc) If you are really a stickler, you can bring your own.
