Tailor in Beijing
Hi everybody! I'll move to Beijing next week, and I'll need a tailor as soon as possible. Can someone suggest me a good one, or a good place to search for? Should I buy the fabrics first or the tailors make it as well? Thank you in advance for help!

The best fabric is the imported stuff, so you might want to bring it with you, as the import tax is fairly high on this kind of product in China.
If you are looking for high quality, there are two stores in the Kerry Center in the central business district. It's been awhile, so I've forgotten the names, but my colleagues and I were happy with the smaller shop located inside the mall (the other had a door directly to the street). (I think the name was Dave's or something similar). If cost is more important, you can try the tailors at Yaxiu (Yashow) Market. They're cheap, but I wouldn't recommend them for your power suits. |
The name is "Dave's Custom Tailoring". They started in Shanghai and now are in Beijing also. Supposed to be a quality shop, though not as cheap as others - I'm guessing maybe $500/suit?

It was something like that, including the cost of the fabric

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a suit made in Beijing?

You pay more for fast turnaround which could be 24 hours since most chinese tailors are night owls, one working on the jacket and the other working on the trousers, you might want to schedule a fitting or two, give it a few extra days.
