Swisshotel Stamford or Raffles the Plaza hotel?

I need a hotel in Singapore for 7 nights and I have narrowed it down to these 2. I know they share the management and are side by side and almost the same price, but is either one better? Also, none of the discount booking sites show the rates for rooms in April yet-anyone know when they are likely to show up?

I have not stayed in either hotel since the change in management, but have stayed in both previously. The Plaza is a nicer building, with larger, more interesting rooms and huge bathrooms. The Stamford rooms are just like all the other round towers the Westin built (Atlanta, Seattle, etc). The rooms are smaller than those in the Plaza.

PS most hotel booking sites will allow you to request a rate quote that is not yet listed. www.asiahotels.com allows this. They've been great about getting back to me quickly with rates.

How do they compare in these aspects: the breakfast buffet, and the swimming pool/workout facilities. I'm not so concerned with room size.
Thanks for the input.

I believe they share the swimming pools, and am quite certain they share the health club facility at the shared Amrita Spa. Is breakfast in your rate? If not, you could go to either for breakfast. Having had breakfast in the main restaurants of each on occasion; I don’t think you would notice an appreciable difference between the two.

My preference would be the Stamford on as high a floor as possible, facing the harbour if at all possible, or facing the river/Stamford Quay. The Stamford is a very tall and I prefer a high floor in it for (i) much better views, (ii) street noise reduction, as the hotels are at the intersection of some quite busy roads. I agree with Kathie that the Raffles (formerly Plaza) is the more luxurious, but I like the views from the Stamford and found the rooms to be quite acceptable.

I've been in touch with asiahotels.com and they have requested rates on both hotels for me. But so far, they are not getting a response. They think it may be Feb. when they get an answer. It seems odd that the hotels wouldn't know what they are charging 3 months from now. is there something going on in Singapore from April 5-13?
