Swastika symbolism in India

Hi, everybody. I'm doing a presentation Friday on India and a book I'm using on Hinduism (printed in 1997) states that the swastika with the ends pointing to the right is a symbol of good luck and of the four accomomplishments of life. It further states that some homes have this painted above the entrance. Can anyone support or disprove this for me before I consider presenting it?
Thanks!!

That is absolutely correct. I was in Bali last year for my honeymoon and saw it quite frequently.

I have a 1916 edition of "Kim" (an Indian adventure story) by Rudyard Kipling which has a large gold swastika printed in gold on the cover and another on the title page with the author's signature underneath it. It always makes me chuckle, because you certainly wouldn't see a modern edition printed with this symbol!

Thanks for the answers! I feel much more confident about the info.

In addition to the Hindu religion--the Tibetan Buddhist for good fortune is the swastika drawn clockwise if it is drawn counterclockwise it is the Bon symbol for good fortune.
