Surin Beach - Rubbish Reports?

Hi All,
We are heading on Honeymoon in Feb 2016 to Koh Lak and Phuket. At one point we hope to stay in Ayara Hill-Tops which is on Surin Beach. We have been alarmed at posts regarding rubbish and sewerage drains near Surin Beach specifically. Has anyone been and have advice if they feel Surin Beach remains a good relatively clean destination? My fiancee loves to swim in the sea so having clean sea-water is a definite wantWe hope to stay in JW Marriott on Koh Lak for the end of our trip. We love scenic tranquil locations - but with a little atmosphere and options for dining/drinks out about the area :). Many thanks! - Emma (Ireland)

Hi Emma

Ayara is not on the beach so they will transport you down and have not had any reports of rubbish or sewerage problems at Surin, it is classed as a good beach. Personally I prefer Layan, Nai Harn or Kata Noi.

We always stop at the JW Marriott in Khao Lak, was there a few weeks ago. It is a very nice hotel right on the beach and swimming is good but be aware it is a very large fairly impersonal hotel and there were a lot of chinese there when we stopped and I am not sure if I would go there again, the restaurant choices have never been great and you will need transport to get to anything else but this applies to most of the top hotels in Khao Lak.

The Ramada is v.central and on the beach in ihe Bang Niang part of Khao Lak. Khao Lak covers quite a few miles of beach, and most of the big hotels are quite remote. Bang Niang and Bang La On are the most central, although I thought Bang Niang to be scuffy and the sea not good for swimming.

I agree about Chinese tour groups. They are noisy, and inconsiderate. Not what I'd want from an expensive hotel.

We love the jw at Khao lak. The beac is very nice there as well as the long lagoon pools. Just out side the gate are several eating places. There are taxi trucks at the end of the drive to take you into town where there are good Thai resturants , as well as most kinds of International food. Renting a car for a day or two is another option, which is what we do..

Thanks so much for the replies - very helpful. More homework needed on the hotels I think! It is our Honeymoon so we are keen to get it right :)!
