Sumo Wrestling
Has anyone on this forum attended a Sumo tournament while in Japan? Any advice on getting tickets, where to sit?
|
Yes, a number of times. I advise you to check out sumo.or.jp/en for dates and venues and you can purchase tickets from buysumotickets.com.......... tickets sell out really fast....

The arena is an oval and there is a concourse inside. Seating below the concourse is a mat on the floor. Above the concourse is regular seating, quite comfortable and less expensive.
The wresters enter from one side of the arena, so you want to sit on the other side so that the entry ceremony is coming toward you. There are Japanese names for the sides of the arena and I think they have compass point names (east and west, I think, and the two wrestler entry processions are called north/south, I got a perfect seat in Tokyo: first row above the concourse on the fifty yardline and the wrestlers entered towards me. |
Thanks for the link! We've set our clock for the date tickets go on sale next spring. Fingers crossed for luck.

If you are sure of your trip and where you will be I would advise you to contact the ticket service I posted above well in advance of when the tickets go on sale....

Thanks for the tip!

Just took a look at the official Sumo page (in English) I checked a few days for tickets to the chair seats which is what I use since I'm alone and several dates were all sold out for the September basho...of course it is less than two weeks away...
