Summer airfare drop?

Thinking about JFK ----> NRT for July 7-21 but prices lately have been $1400 + !!

I remember 3 years ago they fell to about $700 3 or 4 weeks before the trip I took in July.

Does anyone have a feeling that takes this route much this might happen again?

Thanks!

generally prices have been high all this year because of gas prices and i don't see that changing...

i find asia summer flights are usually quite expensive..

No, I don't have that feeling.

I think 3-4 weeks out, chances are much higher that the fares will be $1700+.

I agree with the others. I try to watch flghts pretty regularly, to some of my favorite destinations (BKK is #1) and I'm paying a high price for my upgradeable ORD-BKK ticket in July. I'll feel bad if the price drops by very much, but I don't expect it to happen.

Actually, this did happen to me last summer, for almost the exact same dates in July. I paid about $1300 for tickets to Japan (from Chicago). In May, the price dropped to about $900. Since I'd purchased the tickets directly from United, I was able to get $400 vouchers with no fee (that's how I know when the drop occurred; the voucher date was May 10).

But, I never count on that happening, and I certainly would not this year. It all depends on how fast the planes are filling up.

Thai Airways drops prices Aug. 20th. Prices are high June 1 to Aug. 20.

We are also thinking about NYC to Tokyo in July or August (we must be hooked on Asia). There are some good Japanese travel agencies in the NYC area that focus on the large Japanese population here in the City. People have told me they've had good experiences with them.

In any event, look at tabit-usa.com

I've not had experience with them but they seem to have return fares for about $1,000 for summer travel, though their pricing seems a bit hard to decipher on the web site. Give them a call. Often they do save money, particularly on US carriers. Good luck, let us know what you find.

Thank you all for your help!

I called Tabit and they tried hard but couldn't find anything less than 1400.

I'll burn some FF miles I thankfully saved.
