Suggestion wanted for Hong Kong
 

I have about 9 hours to kill at Kowloon airport. Instead of staying at airport, I'd like to go out to see Hong Kong. Can somebody give me any advise for short sight seeing in this area?

Well to start with you won’t be at Kaitak, it closed years ago and the airport is now on Lantau.<BR><BR>I would suggest that you buy a day return on the train and get yourself into Central. There get on a tram that is going east (that is to your left when your back is to the harbour) go on the top deck and go to the end of the line. Catch the metro back into Central and spend a bit of time there.<BR><BR>Take the Star Ferry across to Kowloon side and have a walk around there.<BR><BR>With the time that you will need for a meal, that should fill your nine hours. If you do have time left consider a ride on the Peak Tram, maybe eat at the top. <BR><BR>Allow 45 minutes to and from the airport and they will expect you to check in two hours before flight time.<BR><BR>Have fun.<BR>

I agree with Tangata's selections. Personally, I'd probably do the Peak first, but that's just me. An additional suggestion would be to take a bus or taxi to Stanley market. The whole area has been spruced up. An old HK landmark, Murray House, was rebuilt in this area. Takes about 30-45 mins from Central by bus.

Here is my suggestion:<BR>Get a round trip ticket and take the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station(1/2 hour). Then take the bus or taxi to the peak tram station(1/2 hour). There take the peak tram up to see the great view(1hour). When you get back down to Central, if time allows, take the bus to the pier (1/2 hour). Then take the star ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui and walk near the waterfront or shop at the Ocean City Mall (3 hours). Take the ferry back to Central Star Ferry (20mins). Take the Airport Express back to the airport (40mins). Estimated time of this itinery is 6 1/2 hours. The other 2 1/2 hours are needed to go thorough customs, immigration, etc.

Viisit to the peak is a must and also if you are there after 8pm go to the night markets, they are like no other you will have seen.

The above suggestions are all great but too rush.<BR><BR>If you love the countryside, go to the big budda. From the airport, take the bus to Tung Chung (15 mins) and then take another bus to the big budda / po lin temple.

Hong kong's airoprt is also a time killer. Lots of shopping here. May be the best in the world. Even can have foot massage. 2 hours in the airport will not bore you

If you have to be stuck at any airport in the world then Hong Kong's is a pretty good choice. I had a WHOLE 12 HOURS stuck there on my way back home to Australia from Paris & was too tired after the first leg of the flight to leave the airport - yep, the shopping is great, there was also a net cafe with FREE access & coffee & a first/business class type lounge that anyone could pay to use - sorry I can't remember the cost (250HKD maybe?) but it was well worth it to me & I spent most of the day there eating delicious foods, showering, watching TV, reading magazines & using the massage chair - fantastic! Having said all that though, if you are not jetlagged like I was & haven't been to Hong Kong before then definitely arrange to do some sightseeing while you are there. I was supposed to be on the next plane out of HK when 9-11 happened so I ended up being stuck there for four days. <BR>The airport is fairly small and cozy.<BR>The coffee/internet bar was a life saver. Just buy something and it's free to use the computers.<BR><BR>I'd get on the train and go into town (takes about 45 min.)<BR><BR>More than anything I would take the tram up to Victoria Peak. There is a Galleria mall with nice shopping and restaurants up on top as well as a virtual rides.<BR><BR>We stayed at the hotel which is connected to the airport. You could go over there and go to the indoor/outdoor pool or the gym.<BR><BR>I thanked God I was in such a good place at such an AWFUL time.

connie &gt; hong kong airport small and cozy? that's not an adjective i've heard to describe it very often. i would hardly call an airport where the terminal building is over 1 km long as "small"!
