Suan Thip Restaurant

I was reading in the Luxe Guide about this restaurant - Suan Thip - in Nonthaburi. The Guide said to hire a boat from Shangri-la and it is about a 50 minute ride down the river. It is supposed to be a fabulous restaurants with little Salas in the gardens next to the river.

I was wondering if anyone has eaten there, especially if you took the boat trip from BKK.

Never been myself but it's very famous, large on the river, pavillions/salas and private dining rooms etc. They probably have a website,, try Yahoo Asia

They do have a website:

www.suanthip.com

It looks wonderful. I was just wondering if anyone had taken the boat trip from Bangkok there for dinner. I know an hour each way is far to travel for dinner, but part of the fun could be getting there!

Also, if it was in the Luxe Guide, I would assume that it is somewhat frequented by tourists.

Doesn't look like anyone has gone there, though. Anyone going to BKK soon that is willing to be a guinea pig?

It sounds interesting. I'm not sure I can squeeze it into my November/December trip, but I'll put it on my "maybe" list.

i took the boat ride to nonthaburi and it was choppy, and long. when i got there, i was in no mood to eat anything. (so keep that in mind).

To be honest if you are looking for a fantastic Thai restaurant in BKK you need go no further than the Thara Thong in The Royal Orchard Sheraton. Beautiful place, great river view and dining experience. And the food is truly amazing and authenic. Not watered down for western tastes. The best I've had in Bangkok bar none - and I'm really picky.

You remind me of the commercial... Let's like Mikey try it. He'll eat anything!!!

Actually, the restaurant looks quite interesting. I'm not sure if all of "my boys" would consider it, but perhaps I'll try. The menu sounds wonderful. We shall see...

By the way, Kenstee, the Thara Thong is one of my favorites as well.

I don't kown anyone that has eaten here but from the web site it looks very nice. The problem is the location. There is no trouble gettin there, just take the river express ferry to the end, abour a 1 hour plus ride from Sathorn Pier (by the skytrain station). Cost 10-25 baht depending which ferry type. However since the ferries stop running at around 6.30 you will have to take a taxi back about an hour trip. You might also hire a lontail boat to take you but I don't think that they travel at night. You could go for lunch rather than dinner.
The boat trip is quite pleasant and usually the waters are fairly calm. Check this site to give you an ideal of what you will see along the way.

looks quite nice, but i see transportation as the issue...is this perhaps a bus stop??

Has anyone tried this restaurant?

Is there any reasonable way of getting there?
