I use the Mileage Plus Visa issued by Chase/BankOne. All it would have taken is a phone call to the bank to have them lift the block on the card.

I have to add that their email to me said that the hotel was all booked and nothing was available. Fortunately I did not listen to them and luckily was able to book directly with the hotel, albeit at a slightly higher price then asiarooms originally quoted. But what good was their great price, right? So good luck to those of you who think that a 33% success rate is worth the few dollars savings.

My bank (Citibank) was firm that it was the vendor who had to request the block be lifted, believe me, I tried that first.

It was less the actual reservation issue and more the run-around replies I kept getting that I found completely unprofessional and pathetic.

You know, against my better judgment, but for Europe, not Asia, I just used to book a hotel in Italy, because it was 20 dollars cheaper than the other websites, but some of the other sites are showing unavailability for that particular hotel-I will be interested to see how this works out-particularly in light of Mishkah's unfortunate experience-I'll know in the next couple of days, whether this is going to turn out right or not.

I just finished 3 weeks in SE Asia, booking rooms as I moved along through Asia using Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. I made 4 reservations online without any problems. I also got confirmations or "regrets" within 24 hours. Although I knew about credit/cancellation issues with other travelers, I was firm on my dates so I didn't get a chance to experience a request for a refund. Because I saved a bundle in cash, I will use again.
