starlight kayaking - phang nga bay
 

Hi everyone - I was wondering if anyone did this kayaking trip. It sounds amazing, with the bioluminscense, and being out there when most of the tourists are gone. Any recommendations on which company to use?

One last thing - I have a tendency to get sea sick on small rocking boats. For other people who experience this, is kayaking a problem also?

I've not done the night trip, but did do a day one.

I own a kayak and can say that if you are prone to sea sickness, it is easier to get sick on a kayak, than on a boat.

That being said, I didn't notice any waves or swell whatsoever in the Bay.

I have not done this trip but have done similar, i go again to Thailand in December and also plan to do this trip. I would shop around for prices when you are there, there are loads of companys doing similar trips, you will see then all in Ao nang, krabi or on leaflets in your hotel.

Don't worry about the sea sickness, i am also very sea sick on small rocking boats and have never found this a problem on a kayak in Thailand, also the sea in this area is usually very calm and flat.

I think you should certainly shop around, and certainly be careful which company you pick. There are about 30 companies now that do the trips to the hongs, but all are not created equal. Get detailed itineraries from all you are conidering. The Hong by Starlight is offered by John Gray Sea Canoe...an excellent company, one of the bestn I've heard, and as such, is often sold out. We've reserved our Hong by Starlight trip for Jan 2 yesterday, based on advice from this board that said it was sold out and some couldn't go.

The time from around 22nd december to mid jan is probably the only time you really need to book, so perhaps wise for that time, you will find lots of brochures and information where you stay and tours/trips overall are well organised, unless you are staying at a very top end resort/hotel most tour prices tend to be around the same price wherever you buy from.
