Kathie, what was the weather like when you went? I think I will keep Kandy in, I just can't face that really loooooong day!
I think we will stay near Galle at a beach resort so can visit Galle but still have the Sri Lankan beach experience.....
Thanks to everyone. Your advice is super helpful.

smeagol - we were in SL in September and October, and though it was vv hot, it was rarely unbearable, though of course we did have the luxury of an air-conditioned vehicle to rush back to when it got too much for us.

I think that the decision to leave Kandy in is a wise one, and there is quite enough to fill an afternoon and evening, and part of the next morning. [remember the Botanical Gardens!]

as for where to stay, we stayed at the Theva Residence and loved it, though it might be the one you've disgarded as I seem to remember that not everyone agreed with us.

Ann, theva is where BSL have recommended and I have asked her to check availability so am really pleased you liked it. Amazingly some places are now getting booked up 9 months out - i am glad i am organised....( I think I am going the same time as a group touring the same spots as us! ) . As there is also very limited availability at Tea trails and our favoured bungalows are blocked booked. I think we can still get in to TT but there is limited availability for the 2 days were are there and Kandy House have also been block booked for our dates!

pleased to help. smeagol. Shame about the block booking - we didn't run into that problem thank goodness and we were booking about 6 months in advance. but if you can get in there, I'm sure that you will like the Theva. we thought that the food was terrific - the Sri lankan breakfast in particular. and the view over Kandy is spectacular!
