Sri Lanka - hiring drivers

When hiring drivers in Sri Lanka do you hire them for the day? or can you hire them for a one-way journey?

How much, broadly, would it cost for a day departing from Colombo?

Thanks

Where are you wanting the driver to take you? I enjoyed my stay in Sri Lanka. I stayed mostly in the Colombo area. Every day during my stay I hired a driver. Mostly I used Tuk-Tuks (note: only if you're feeling brave. These are generally unsafe, the drivers are daredevils, and they're open air and not so comfortable- I loved 'em) But I also had a sedan for at least one day (tired of the Tuk-tuks). I paid the tuk-tuk drivers around $10 a day and I gave the sedan driver around $20. I was informed by a Scot at the Hilton that I was overpaying, but at those prices I didn't really care. I think I'd feel uncomfortable paying less and besides the service was great I figured any overpayment was just a tip. I'm sure you could hire a driver for a one way journey if you want.

We always hired the driver for the day. We did one ways to and from the airport as well as a round trip to Yala National Park. I have pics and some additional info at my site I am putting together http://www.bombasticlife.com/pas_sri_lanka.html

If you haven't been to Sri Lanka before you will love it!
