need help with transfer from PVG-Beijing

hi, I am arriving in Shanghai PVG at 3:25 p.m. on December 29th. I need to continue to Beijing on the same day. How do I book and purchase the airline ticket to go to Beijng? I already purchased my US-Shanghai roundtrip. Thanks

There aren't that many flights a day PVG-PEK. From what I'm checking, the only flights possible maybe:

CA156 6:45p
MU586 8:50p
CA176 9:40p
MU5129 9:50p

Full fare coach is 1130RMB one-way, and I don't see many discount fares.

You may book ahead using one of the online agents like ctrip.com, elong.net, yoee.com or zuji.com. But if it's full-fare, you may want to just wait until you get there and buy it then. Business class is 1470RMB, so that's not unreasonable either.

Sorry, I didn't see the date you specified.

The correct flight numbers are:

CA156 6:45p
MU272 7:20p
CA178 9:05p
MU586 9:15p

On yoee.com, the two CA flights have only full fares. MU272 has a 10% off for 1020RMB, the late MU586 has a 50% off fare for 570RMB. But I don't think you want to hang around the Shanghai airport for that long.

Thanks rkkwan. Is there a specific place at the aiport for ticket purchase? Which airline do you recomend? I already contacted Kong Lin in Beijing(great reviews from fodorites)and he will be our tour guide. Is January 1st a holiday in Beijing? Will it be a good day to go to the Wall? thanks!

monica88 - I don't really have any 1st experience with buying Chinese plane tickets at the airport, or using one of those online sites. [My Chinese travels are usually arranged by someone in Hong Kong.]

But what I suggest you do is check those sites I linked to, starting around November or so, and see if you find any significantly discounted fares on those flights you want. I mean at least 25-30% off. If you do, then you should order from them.

If there's no discount fares available ever, then just show up at the Air China or China Eastern counter (depending on what time you get out of immigration/customs), and just buy the full fare to PEK.

Bear in mind that there's a good chance your onward flight will be delayed.

monica, I can't imagine any problem on January 1, as it's nowhere near Chinese New Year, but it will be damn cold. Maybe someone with more direct experience can chime in - I'm only making assumptions, sorry.

Jan 1st is public holiday in China. But it doesn't matter too much. The Wall will be fairly crowded like other days in January. Especially at the popular Badaling section.

And it will be cold! Bring lots of layers. The dry Beijing air can really be bitter if a wind kicks up.
