Spa recs in Bangkok

I'm spending 4 nights in Bangkok next month. If one were to indulge in one day of treatments, where (and what) would it be?

The spa at The Oriental Hotel is fabulous! It's located across the river from the hotel, easily accessed by the hotel's boat shuttle. Perfect for a wonderful pampering experience.

For a much less expensive and good massage, but not luxurious, go to Wat Po.

I'm not "into" the massage routine like a lot of my friends, who go regularly here in the US. So I didn't opt to get pampered at the Oriental or any other day spa. But...

I must relate my own Wat Po experience. On my first trip to BKK, I sprained my ankle on the uneven pavement the very FIRST day I was there! Ouch!!! Here in the US, the doc would have said, stay off of it, keep it elevated, take Tylenol, etc. and maybe even issue crutches. Well,
I was advised to go to Wat Po and have a 1-hour Thai food massage. I decided to give it a try.

I hurt like h**l when the therapist started massaging the area to get the blood moving. But... in one hour, I could have DANCED out of the room!!! It worked wonders!!! We need good therapeutic Thai massage here in the US!

The Royal Orchid Sheraton (on the river) opened a new spa last November. I was there in December and had several lovely spa treatments. They has just been written up as one of the best spas in the city.

Thanks for all your input. The Oriental just forwarded a copy of their spa menu - so much to choose from! and soooo expensive but easily justified.
I'm very much looking forward to Wat Po as well.

ps - may have to pay a visit to the Sheraton spa too :)

Can someone please kindly tell me where in Wat Po is this spa treatment?

No spa at Wat Po, but it is the site of the school of traditional Thai massage.

I would return to Spa on 9th. Fabulous treatments, gorgeous building, quite private (4-6 rooms?). Very reasonable prices as well.

For just a plain Thai massage, go to Wat Po- a one hour massage is 300 baht, or 300 for a 45 min foot massage. They'll also come to your hotel room for 700 baht for 1.5 hours. Just call and schedule.

We were in BKK in Oct 2003 and loved the Being Spa ..http://www.beingspa.com/ Very reasonable prices and a real spa experience... immaculate and very special Thai service. We were staying at the Peninsula and tried to get in to the Oriental Spa but they were fully booked (make plans well in advance) but we found the Being Spa to be 1/4 the cost and just wonderful. We'll go back this October and will make extra time for this spa. As I remember it is in a great little walking neighborhood and we had a terrific lunch around the corner before our three hour session. The Dusit Thani Hotel also has a very impressive spa but again, much much more expensive than Being Spa and I can't imagine how it could be better.
