Southeast Asia Visas

A group of us will be traveling to Vietnam, Cambodia, Myranmar, Laos, and Thailand in November. Has anyone used or heard about a reputable visa expediting agency that would handle walking our passports to the various Washington DC embassies?

Contact... Travisa Visa Service...1731 21st Street NW...Washington,DC...20009...tel.202.463-6166 I got my visa through them for my Ghana, West Africa trip of Dec 2003/Jan 2004 and then when I went back to Ghana Dec 2004/Jan2005 and thought I needed another visa so I sent in all the paperwork again. They were absolutely wonderful and called me immediately to tell me my visa was still good and that they had marked it to make it clear that it didn't need to be renewed. They then wished me a wonderful trip.A friend of a friend was on her way from LAX to Ghana and got to the airport when she was informed she couldn't get on the plane without a visa. She hadn't done her homework. So, a friend called me and asked for help in this person's situation and I sent her to Travisa, too and everything was taken care of and off to Ghana she eventually went. They have an office in San Francisco, too that handles Southeast Asia/Asia.I talked with that office, too. I live in California, but had to send my paperwork to D.C. because the D.C. office handles certain countries and the west coast office handles other countries. So call the D.C. office and get the San Francisco office number.Hope this has been helpful. Happy Travels!

You can do most of this yourself. The only one you need to get before hand is Myanmar.

1. For Thailand, if you are US citizens, you do not need a visa for Thailand for stays of less than 30 days.

2. For Cambodia, you can buy a visa at the at the airport in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. You need a passport size picture. Take a look at http://embassy.org/cambodia

3. For Laos, visas are issued upon arrival in Laos to tourists with two passport size photographs and $30 at Wattay Airport, Vientiane; Friendship Bridge, Vientiane, and Luang Prabang Airport as well as the following international entry points: Boten-Bohan, Hoeyxay, Khammouane-Nakhonphanom, Sayannahket-Mukdahan, Vangtao-Chong Mek, Pakse Airport, Daensayanh-Laobao, Namphao-Kaopae, and Namkan. Foreign tourists are generally admitted to Laos for 15 days with a visa issued upon arrival or for 30 days with a visa issued at a Lao Embassy. Go to http://www.laoembassy.com/

4. For Myanmar, take a look at http://www.mewashingtondc.com/. Personally I would pick Bhutan over Myanmar, if you want a more “exotic” Buddhist location which restricts access to visitors.

You can get all the above info by going to the US State Department website at - http://travel.state.gov/travel.

Note that for VN you must have a visa in advance. There is no visa on arrival.

If you are Korean or Japanese or German, or Thai (?) you don't need visa. Other than that, you need to get visa before arrival to VN. You can also go www.traveltovietnam.com. Pay about $30 or less depending on number of travellers to get a visa approval paper faxed or emailed back to you. Upon arrival, you show this paper and pay $25 to get the VISA at the airport ( hochiMINH or Hanoi). Good luck. It is a pain in the butt, I hope VNese government get rid of all visa requirements soon.
