Something Different in Thailand for Mother and Daughter to Do Together
Daughter will be 9, and it will be our 5th trip to Thailand. The two of us will have a week or 10 days to do something after my husband goes home from our Singapore and Cambodia trip. I'm hoping to find one or two places we can go and experience something special...vague, I know, but I just can't pinpoint what I'm looking for until I find it I think.

Kim,
I am just taking a break in helping my daughter pack off to college so I am envious of your situation! Your daughter may never go through a terrible phase -- some do, some don't -- but if she does, you will have the foundation of this wonderful time together. Our memories of shared trips are so precious to both of us.
Good luck with this decision. I look forward to reading about what you decide to do with your 10 days. Happy problem...

If I were you, I'd contact a school in Thailand and go to a school...to a class that's learning English and take photos from home to share with the class. Do a show-and-tell kind of lesson where the kids could ask questions in English. That way she'd have an educational/cultural exchange experience...along with a vacation. Happy Travels!

How about spending several days at School for Life in Chiang Mai. Accomodations are basic but fine and the place is extraordinary. It would be a very special place for the two of you. Here's their website.

Or you can combine it with a stay at Joy;s House which offers all kinds of activities that are special.

I would recommend a movie at the Gold Class Theater at Siam Discovery. There is usually a family movie playing.
The seats are huge with remote controls. You get a pillow, blanket, & socks. CNN called it the most luxurious movie theater in the world.
It really is one of the better places to experience in Bangkok.

Take her to one of the islands for a couple of days of snorkling, diving, kayaking, etc. that should burn some energy!
I don't know which islands to recommend as I have never been there (and I'm sure others will jump in with suggestions)but I have seen some video footage of kayak guided trips thru caves and coves that looked very easy and interesting as well.
Aloha!
