Some places you might be overlooking in Ha Giang

After many trips to Ha Giang that I’ve guided, I just wanted to share a few things that might help with planning. A lot of guides online are useful, but some parts feel a bit simplified or repetitive.

The flower season there is more varied than people usually think. In late December to early January, you can still catch some peach blossoms in higher areas like Lũng Cú, but the more reliable and generally better period is late February to early March. That’s when peach and wild plum flowers are more widespread, and the weather is also really nice before the summer heat starts.

For the Sông Nho Quế experience, most people only do the standard boat ride through the canyon, but the river area itself is bigger than just that one section. If you have time, it’s worth not treating it as a quick stop, because the surrounding viewpoints and quieter stretches can feel quite different and much less crowded.

Outside the main loop, villages like Du Già and Lao Xa are worth considering if you prefer something slower and more local. They are less developed than the usual tourist stops, but that’s also what makes them feel more peaceful and authentic.

One thing that often gets overlooked is the waterfalls. Places like Nậm Lang (often considered one of the most beautiful), Du Già waterfall, Táng Tinh (Tiên) waterfall, Thí waterfall, and Khau Làn are all worth a stop if you are not rushing the itinerary. They show a different side of Ha Giang that many people miss if they only focus on viewpoints and the loop.

Overall, Ha Giang is often presented through a few well-known highlights, but the experience really changes depending on how much time you spend and how far you go off the main route. Hope this helps!
