The Z pack is also what my doc gave me.

Tim_and_Liz Dec 5th, 2007 06:44 AM

I also was prescribed the Z pack.

Tim (pharmacist) was surprised that Levaquin was prescribed.

I am sorry that Cheryl was ill but glad that she has recovered.

You can get Z packs in BKK. No prescription needed. I'd buy it at a reputable pharmacy like Boots.

Next time anyone gets food poisoning in Thailand and produces largely watery stools, go immediately to a reputable hospital! My wife ate som tum with raw crab on our 2nd night there. The next day water! IV drip and antibiotics that night. Don't mess around and try to save money.

I read the Canadian mail order sites for Dukoral, but quite frankly, the side effects, which seem to be rather common, and the fact that's only 25% effective against TD & costs about $125, we're not going to take it.

Cipro gives me the runs & it's not effective in SE Asia, so I'm going to stick with what worked in rural Polynesia (diarrhea, chills, sweats, nausea & stomach cramps that I thought the ALIEN would come out of my stomach)... when a few days of Imodium & French anti-diarrhea medicine for kids (Smecta) did not work, along w/ a clear liquid fast, the Bactrim worked.

Thanks for the Zythromax advice. Is it available as sachets or powders or pills in Thailand? Is there anywhere to buy it Khao Lak? we go there first & BKK last, before REP...

Zithromax is widely availalbe in Bangkok in capsules @ 250mg each. Price around Baht 500 - 650 per pack of 6 capsules.

we go to BKK last, first Khao Lak, then Siem Reap... but I'm sure there's a pharmacy in Khao Lak... anyone know where I can buy THAI SIM CARDS in Khao Lak?

Oksana, ask your question as a separate topic. You will be more likely to get answers.

Kathie-Is TD resistant to Cipro in India? My travel doc said that is what I should take for TD during my future trip to India, but I saw her 6 months ago and maybe the thinking has changed since then.

Kathie Dec 22nd, 2007 08:51 AM

India has not had the same problems with Cipro resistance as Thailand has. I would go with the recommendation of your doctor.
